While it's far from the most muscular offering in the model range, the engine of the base Mustang -- a 3.7-liter V6 -- is nevertheless brilliant. Good for a hearty 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, this six-banger can be had with your choice of either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

We'd note that it does a pretty decent job on the fuel economy front, too; when had with the automatic gearbox, for instance, the base V6 achieves 22 mpg combined (19 city/28 highway).
